DANC'IN HEARTLAND

(An Ongoing Series)

Dance is mostly performed in nice theatres in the city,  but dance is so much more; it is tradition, religion, language, expression all rolled into one.  And I am immensely inspired by it which led to this personal project to bring dance back into the heartlands through photography.

Dancing in the MRT Station.
Dancing on the Dagon Playground.
Dancing in the Playground.
Dancing at the HDB rubbish chute.
Dancing along the HDB corridor.
Dancing in Chinatown.
Dancing at Rochor Centre.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF OUR HAWKER CENTRES

I LOVE food and hawker centres are such an integral part of a Singaporean's life that I was so honoured to be one of the photographers involved in this exhibition and doing my part for Singapore's bid to be inscribed into UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In the dead of night.
Hawkers are starting to prepare.
And the morning crowd starts trickling in.
They might have a short nap before work starts.
When the sun comes up, it's time for breakfast and newspaper.
Sometimes they "chope" their favourite seats
The last of the handmade sachima maker.
A safe and clean place where a grandmother can feed a child.
Zhe ge, na ge.
Colleges attracting luck by lou hei-ing.
Hawker centres do not discriminate.
The guardian of the throne.
A young apprentice.
Re-wok my fire!
Here's to you, Mr Cameraman!
Only date someone who can eat in a Hawker Centre.
Kakis.
A hawker life is not easy, sometimes you have got to bring your kid to work.
Do you miss the sounds of "ma pew poh"?
Celebrating his 21st!
Lion dancing.
My arm is bigger than yours.
The night never ends at a hawker centre.
Salute to those who keep our hawker centres clean.
Aunty getting ready to leave and return at 9am..
Uncle preparing food for lunch.
